Performance and Innovation Manager

City of Fairfax, Virginia

Salary: $91,861 - $160,755 annually | Job Type: Full-Time | Closing Date: July 12, 2026

Why the City of Fairfax?

The City of Fairfax is one of Northern Virginia's most well-managed and community-focused local governments - a full-service independent city with a strong fiscal foundation, an engaged and proud community, and a leadership team invested in delivering excellent public services. We offer the responsiveness and visibility of a close-knit organization with the professional resources and career stability of a substantial employer. If you are looking for meaningful work where your contributions are seen and valued, Fairfax is a great place to grow your career.

The Opportunity

The City of Fairfax is seeking a skilled, analytically-minded professional to serve as its Performance and Innovation Manager. Reporting to the Assistant City Manager/CFO, this professional-level position in the City Manager's Office supports citywide strategic planning, organizational performance monitoring, and data-informed decision-making. The role provides analytical and facilitation support to executive leadership and contributes to a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in how the City serves its community.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys working across organizational lines, turning data into clear stories, and contributing to work that has real public impact.

What You'll Do

Support the development, monitoring, and reporting of the City's strategic plan and organizational performance framework

Build and maintain performance dashboards and data visualization tools aligned with City Council priorities

Conduct organizational, operational, and financial analyses in support of executive-directed priorities

Assist with continuous improvement and process improvement initiatives across City departments

Prepare accurate, timely, and accessible reports and presentations for executive and City Council audiences

Collaborate with department directors and managers across City operations to advance shared improvement goals

Who You Are

You hold a bachelor's degree in public administration, business, finance, or a related field and bring solid professional experience in performance analysis, strategic planning support, data analytics, or process improvement. You are proficient in Power BI or a comparable data visualization platform and can present complex information clearly to a range of audiences. You work well independently, exercise sound professional judgment, and enjoy a collaborative environment. Experience in local government is a plus but not required - we welcome candidates from public, private, and nonprofit backgrounds who care about public service.
