Summary Provides professional care through direct lactation assessment, intervention, evaluation, education, and follow-up of breastfeeding women affiliated with Danbury Hospital and in the community. The nursing process is utilized in collaboration with the health care team to implement a plan of care specific to the needs of each breastfeeding family.

Required

  • State of CT RN license
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience required
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required

Hours Per Diem Shift: variable

Responsibilities

  1. Conducts assessment of breastfeeding dyad in an ongoing & systematic manner, attentive to the physiologic, psychologic & cognitive status of the patient.
  2. Incorporates the nursing process to develop a plan of care that educates & directs the nursing staff & patient in appropriate management to achieve breastfeeding success.
  3. Collaborates with the health care team to implement the knowledgeable, skillful, consistent & continuous delivery of a plan of care specific to the breastfeeding patients needs.
  4. Prioritizes consultation, intervention, education based on maternal, infant status, learning needs, length of stay & available resources.
  5. Utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to evaluate the effectiveness of LC interventions, plan of care & patient progression towards expected outcomes.
  6. Provides breastfeeding support & education to staff & patients within the Danbury Hospital & in the community.
  7. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
