PRIMARY FUNCTIONThe Peer Support Specialist supports the recovery needs of patients receiving Substance Use Disorder treatment at White House Clinics. The Peer Support Specialist is an individual in stable recovery who is able to use their personal, lived experience in recovery to guide and advocate for patients during the recovery process. The PSS serves as a connection between patients/individuals in the community struggling with substance use disorder and recovery supports available to them. The PSS will engage individuals in all points of recovery to teach and model the skills necessary to support long term recovery. As an individual in recovery, The PSS role will require flexibility and self-direction, as well as the ability to problem solve to assist patient in meeting their recovery goals. PRINCIPLE DUTIES

Qualifications PSS at White House Clinics must have been in stable recovery in the community for a period of at least two years. PSS must have a commitment to helping the Substance Use Disorder population and hold values consistent with those of the MAT services offered by WHC. Successful PSS will hold a commitment to and passion for helping individuals enter and maintain recovery. Successful applicants will be mature and well organized with pleasant personality, have a professional and warm demeanor that facilitates the development of a collaborative relationship with patients, providers and outside resources. Additionally, successful applicants will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and approach tasks and patient encounters in an energetic and creative manner. The ideal applicant will demonstrate strong initiative and the ability to be a self-starter. PSS will maintain healthy boundaries with patients and staff and adhere to ethical guidelines of the PSS role. ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONSProfessionalism Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of practice through reading and in-services. This is especially important in the areas of insurance coverage and claims, patient flow, scheduling, assuring correct patient information, and handling patient relations. Obeys appropriate dress code as specified in Employee Handbook. Provide superior customer service to all patients, external customers (office staff of other offices, hospital, community agencies, etc.), and co-workers. Serves as an ambassador of the White House Clinics in all conversations and interactions with these parties. Service Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Mission and Vision and Values of the organization. Maintains clinic standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience. Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention. Compliance Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information. Adheres to professional standards, clinic policies and procedures (OSHA, HIPAA, Standing Orders, etc.), federal, state, and local requirements, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), etc. Cooperates fully with all aspects of Corporate Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team. ACCOUNTABILITYThe Peer Support Specialist reports to the Director of Behavioral Health Services for administrative purposes and will receive Peer Support Specialist supervision from an organizational LCSW or the Director of Behavioral Health Services. SUPERVISION EXERCISEDNone TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis position requires sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment are also required. Position requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Employees will be required lift papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in office environment and involves frequent contact with staff and the public. Position may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Evening and/or weekend work is required. Work may be stressful at times. Work will also be performed in the community in order to assist individuals in recovery to access resources and supports in the community. PSS should expect to meet with individuals in community settings such as the Emergency Department and Jail in addition to the clinic. SALARY $15.04 - $23.68 WORK HOURS 37.5 hours per week. PSS should anticipate work to occur outside of normal business hours on a regular basis due to the nature of recovery coaching services. PSS will participate in an on call rotation, which will require responding to telephone calls outside of clinic hours.EVALUATIONEvaluated annually by the Director of Behavioral Health Services and providers as appropriate.
