5 Door Recovery has an immediate opening for a full time Peer Support Specialist. The Peer Support Specialist provides support, encouragement, and assistance to individuals who have completed programming at 5 Door Recovery. Utilizing their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist will help clients navigate their recovery journey, connect with resources, and build a supportive community.

Starting pay is $21.15 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Help clients create and navigate their aftercare plan from residential services, working with them to identify and achieve their personal recovery goals using appropriate coping methods and rehabilitation strategies with the client.
  • Offer one-on-one peer support to clients, sharing personal experiences to foster hope and resilience.
  • Assist clients in identifying and accessing necessary resources related to housing, employment, physical and mental health, and additional treatment.
  • Help clients arrange medical appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other resources to aid the client.
  • Provide coaching, emotional, and moral support to clients.
  • Report concerns about health and safety to relevant professionals identified in the aftercare plan.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
  • Keep accurate records of client encounters, monitoring and documenting client progress towards aftercare plan goals.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Lived experience with substance use recovery.
  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist, with at least one year's experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and own transport.
  • Good knowledge of the best practices for substance use recovery and recovery resources available within the community.
  • An understanding of and ability to follow the philosophy of trauma-informed care.
  • Clear understanding of boundaries related to personal recovery, 12-step self-help, and professional treatment.
  • Problem solving skills to help clients overcome obstacles to their continued recovery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated skills in active listening.
