Greenville, NC & surrounding areas
Pathways to Life, Inc. is expanding its clinical support team. We are adding Peer Support Specialists to support multiple service lines as our programs grow across community-based care in Eastern North Carolina.
This role is for people who have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery and are certified (or working toward certification) as a Peer Support Specialist. The work focuses on using that experience to support others in real-world settings: homes, community spaces, and service providers.
We are expanding services across our clinical and community programs. Peer Support Specialists will not be limited to a single program. You will support members across different service areas, helping reduce gaps in access and increasing time spent in the community with direct support.
Service area: Greenville and surrounding counties
You will use your lived experience to support recovery, daily functioning, and community stability.
Typical work includes:
Meeting members in community settings (home visits, appointments, public spaces)
Supporting daily routines (housing stability, appointments, basic structure)
Helping members connect to services (healthcare, benefits, housing, employment supports)
Participating in Person-Centered Plan development with clinical teams
Working alongside CST Qualified Professionals and licensed staff on shared care plans
Providing peer-based de-escalation support when situations become difficult
Documenting services in the EHR in line with Medicaid / MCO requirements
Attending team meetings and supervision sessions to coordinate care and adjust support plans
You will work directly with:
Peer Support staff
CST Qualified Professionals (QPs)
Licensed clinicians
Care coordination and community partners
Work is structured around coordination across providers, with shared responsibility for member outcomes.
NC Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)
Lived experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Clean driving record
Ability to travel across Greenville and surrounding areas during the workday
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Basic documentation and communication skills
Work in community-based behavioral health settings
Exposure to Medicaid-funded behavioral health services (MCOs such as Vaya, Partners, Trillium)
Use of electronic health record (EHR) systems
This is not a clinic-only role. Work takes place in:
Member homes
Community locations
Provider offices and service sites
Occasional office time for documentation and meetings
Some evening or weekend hours may be required based on member needs and scheduling.
Travel throughout the day across multiple community sites
Walking, standing, and navigating varied environments
Occasional lifting up to ~25 lbs
As services expand, this position increases direct support capacity across programs and reduces delays in access to peer-based care. The goal is to spend more time with members in their environments, not just in scheduled office settings.
