Make a Difference in Recovery and Mental Health Support
Are you passionate about helping others navigate their recovery journey? We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-focused support services to individuals transitioning from hospitalization to community living and those facing mental health or substance use challenges.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with lived experience who wants to empower others through advocacy, mentorship, and recovery support.
What You'll Do
- Provide peer support, outreach, and recovery-based services.
- Assist individuals transitioning from hospitals back into the community.
- Serve as a consumer advocate within the agency and community.
- Educate consumers and families on recovery principles and peer support services.
- Participate in treatment team meetings and recovery planning.
- Accompany clients to appointments and assist with accessing community resources.
- Support clients in developing treatment goals and recovery plans.
- Help individuals build natural supports and strengthen community connections.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and resilience.
Qualifications
Required
- Personal experience as a consumer of mental health and/or substance abuse services.
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to at least 3 years in:
- Human Services
- Mental Health
- Substance Abuse Services
- Peer Support or Advocacy Programs
- Consumer-Run Organizations
- Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's License.
Preferred
- Experience working with adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.
- Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and community resources.
