Job Description

This position is located at 216 Great Bridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA.

Recovery doesn't stop after business hours-and neither do we. Join our Crisis Receiving Center team and use your lived experience to help individuals experiencing behavioral health crises find hope, connection, and support during some of their most difficult moments.

Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health (CIBH) is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist to support peers in their mental health and/or substance use recovery by modeling personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and wellness via telling your recovery story; assisting them in identifying personal recovery goals; and developing and utilizing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports, and resources to aid them in achieving those goals. This position specifically works to support individuals who are in crisis and to help promote post-crisis growth.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide peer support and recovery-focused services to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use crises
  • Use lived experience to foster hope, engagement, and meaningful connections
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, case managers, and other team members to support individuals in crisis
  • Support individuals in connecting with community resources and recovery supports following crisis stabilization
  • Coordinates transportation as needed for individuals from the hospital emergency department to their apartment, home, or other residential settings to support the resolution of a behavioral health crisis.
  • Documents services in the client electronic health record.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Vocational/Educational Requirement:

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in Psychology, Sociology, or related field.

Experience:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this job class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must complete Virginia Department of Behavioral Health Developmental Services (DBHDS) Peer Recovery Specialist Training and become certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist in the state of Virginia and possess within one year of hire.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

Special Requirement:
