Job Title
PEER MENTOR (Undergraduate Student Position)

Position Summary

Reporting to the faculty supervisor of the Peer Mentoring Studio, this
position facilitates studentsuccess and learning through positive
peer support. This position also builds leadership and mentoring
skills for the student employee. The peer mentor is an undergraduate
student who helps peers navigate the college environment and
achieve their academic and personal goals throughstudy skills,
commitment, persistence, accountability, innovation, and integrity.
The Peer Mentor role requires interaction with students inside and
outside of the classroom as well as in the studio for consultations.
Mentoring involves active and ongoing relationships between
mentors and students being mentored to promote social and academic development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Meet with assigned students outside of class and in the Peer
Mentoring Studio
• Meet with faculty supervisor as needed to plan, implement,
and assess engagement strategies.
• Design and host study groups in the PM Studio.
• Disseminate helpful information to peers; Effectively
communicate strategies that foster academic success in oral
and written communication.
• Serve as a student role model who takes pride in Texas
Wesleyan University and the Ramily; maintain knowledge of
campus resources and campus events in order to encourage
student attendance at events around campus.
• Attend training sessions with faculty supervisor and
professional development activities related to mentoring and
student success.
• Facilitate socio-academic experiences and walk-in support
sessions.
• Assist students in interacting with faculty members and with
other audiences to foster college life-skill building.
• Complete and submit workshop plans, voiceover
presentations, and documents to be used with students in the
PM (Peer Mentoring) Studio
• Confer with faculty supervisor regarding necessary peer
mentoring interventions and outreach.
• Attend and participate in all training and staff meetings as
required.
• Attend the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and
follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the
worksite, adhering to the advanced notice policy for absences
from work.
• Develop outreach materials and correspondence with faculty
and staff to increase student retention efforts
• Deliver presentations promoting peer mentoring in classes to
raise awareness of available support.
• Practice growing skills in writing goal-oriented action plans for
student benefit and progress checks.
• Create web content, social media posts, data entry, and
documentation in spreadsheets for records of student
contact. Proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite, presentation
tools, and virtual meeting interfaces such as Teams and Zoom.
• Collect attendance data for every peer mentoring
consultation, including student names, course title, date, and
time of session.
• Have a class schedule that permits staffing hours for campus
and student needs; ability to work during student-access-to-
campus days; takes initiative in an active and visible role as a
student leader on campus.

Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
• Current enrollment as a student in good standing at the
university with a cumulative GPA near 3.0 or above.
Experience
• Completion of at least 15 credit hours at Texas Wesleyan
University; faculty recommendation for social and
communication skills and capacity to mentor peers with
compassion and ethics; additional subject matter expertise in
a student major preferred but not required.

Experience
• Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or assisting peers
is preferred.
• Experience developing problem-solving improvement plans preferred.
• Skill in guiding student peers within the Canvas Course
Management System
• Experience documenting details through note-taking and/or record-keeping.

checks.
• Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance and

• Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, standard
correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly,
appropriately, and in a timely manner.
• Ability to uphold workplace ethics and principles of academic
integrity for student benefit.
