General Summary:
A Eureka College Peer Mentor provides one-on-one mentoring sessions that support the mentees' goals. Mentees are first-year students who are either the first in their family to attend college and/or historically underrepresented. The Peer Mentor is responsible for providing mentorship to 4-5 mentees for the entire academic year through weekly interactions. The Peer Mentor will participate in training prior to being assigned a mentee roster and will attend 3 campus activities throughout the semester. A peer mentor should be passionate about helping others succeed, eager to develop their leadership, dedicated to serving diverse student groups, have an open mind and flexibility.
Position Responsibilities:
Serve as an advocate, coach and role model for mentees
Partner with mentees to support action plans completed through college resources
Initiate contact with mentees each week
Utilize tools from the Peer Mentor training to mentoring relationship
Email or text roster of mentees a list of activities that are occurring on campus each week
Document all interactions with mentees through electronic case note form on a weekly basis
Attend bi-weekly Peer Mentor staff meetings
Immediately inform supervisor if mentees are at risk of harming themselves or others
Notify supervisor of any conflicts or inability to fulfill position responsibilities.
Participate in required mentor trainings, meetings, and campus events.
