PCBA Rework Technician

Job Summary

The PCBA Rework Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and modifying printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to meet quality and functional standards. This role requires strong soldering skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with fine-pitch and sensitive electronic components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform rework and repair on PCBAs, including removal and replacement of surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components
  • Conduct micro-soldering on fine-pitch components such as BGAs, QFNs, and other advanced packages
  • Use rework stations, hot air tools, soldering irons, and microscopes to complete repairs
  • Troubleshoot defective assemblies using schematics, drawings, and test data
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with IPC standards and company quality requirements
  • Document rework performed, including root cause and corrective actions
  • Support engineering teams with prototype modifications and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, following ESD and safety protocols
  • Assist in continuous improvement efforts to reduce defects and improve repair processes

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in PCBA rework or electronics repair
  • Proficiency in hand soldering and rework techniques for SMT and through-hole components
  • Ability to read schematics, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Experience working under magnification (microscope)
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721)
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC certification (e.g., IPC-7711/7721 Rework/Repair Certification)
  • Experience with BGA rework and X-ray inspection
  • Knowledge of ESD handling procedures
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or electronics production environment
