Job Summary and Qualifications

The PBX Operator coordinates the hospital switchboard, handling incoming, outgoing, and internal telephone calls. He/She is the primary person responsible for monitoring all alarm indicators and disseminating information in the event of internal emergencies such as Dr. Leo, fires, and emergency alarms. He/she is primary person responsible for performing overhead pages.

  •  Possess excellent communication and telephone skills.
  •  Answers telephone promptly, efficiently, and with a professional, courteous image to all callers.
  •  Places outgoing calls as requested and routes calls appropriately.
  •  Pages, locates, and relays information to physicians and employees.
  •  Updates and maintains current on-call and beeper assignments.
  •  Locates on call personnel appropriately and in a timely manner.
  •  Maintains up-to-date census and directs patient calls appropriately.
  •  Maintains patient confidentiality as indicated by the computer.
  •  Handles all “CODE” and emergency calls promptly and accurately
  •  Responds to call on 7555 line immediately 100% of the time.
  •  Pages appropriate personnel based on current policy 100% of the time
  •  Maintains log of all codes and other non-standard occurrences.
  •  Monitors equipment to ensure that all is operational and refers problems to PBX
  • supervisor as necessary.
  •  Reports problems with telecommunications equipment to the PBX Supervisor
  • promptly.
  • Participates in quality improvement program to improve operation of work unit.
  •  Attends all scheduled quality training sessions
  •  Utilizes quality improvement skills in problem resolution
  •  Participates in Process Improvement Team when asked.
  •  Sorts and routes incoming mail by department or staff member.
  •  Prepares daily overnight mail for the RSC timely and accurately.
  •  Completes checklist for RSC scanning documents timely and regularly.
  •  Demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
  •  Performs other related duties as directed or required.

  • Six months previous experience with PBX
