Overview

Larimer County Human Resources is looking for a Payroll Technician to join our team.

The Payroll team within Human Resources supports over 2,500 employees across more than 25 departments, playing a critical role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, every time. The team operates in a complex payroll environment that requires strong focus, organization, and follow-through. Accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail are essential, along with a shared commitment to high standards and accountability. Team members work collaboratively to support one another and back up critical processes, ensuring continuity and providing responsive, high-quality service to employees and departments across the County.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed, process-driven work and takes pride in supporting a team. The Payroll Technician provides administrative and technical support to the Payroll Specialists who oversee the Countys payroll process. Responsibilities include reviewing and entering payroll-related information, maintaining records, assisting employees and departments with questions, researching discrepancies, and ensuring information is accurate and complete. Success in this role requires careful attention to detail, the ability to follow established procedures and reference guides, strong customer service skills, and a commitment to meeting recurring deadlines.

This position is not eligible for full-time remote work. The selected candidate will complete a minimum of eight weeks of in-office training, working on-site five days per week. Following successful completion of training, the position may transition to a hybrid schedule with a minimum of two in-office days per week.

Responsibilities

What youll be doing:

  • Providing backup support for bi-weekly payroll processing, including preparing pre-payroll reports, reviewing timecards for policy compliance, and auditing pre-check details to identify and resolve discrepancies within required timelines.
  • Reviewing and processing employee personnel changes, including new hires, promotions, transfers, pay adjustments, terminations, deductions, and final payouts.
  • Assisting employees and payroll representatives with payroll forms, codes, and procedures.
  • Maintaining employee system access, including managing logins, permissions, password resets, and troubleshooting access issues.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • At least one (1) year of experience in payroll, accounting, HR, or a related field involving detailed, process-driven work
