Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Accountant with deep knowledge of multi-jurisdictional payroll across the United States. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate payroll tax calculations, filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with payroll systems such as PeopleSoft, ADP, and other enterprise payroll platforms. This is a contract to hire opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end payroll tax processes for multi-state and local jurisdictions across the U.S.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of federal, state, and local payroll tax returns (e.g., 941, state withholding, unemployment filings).
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with changing payroll tax laws and regulations across jurisdictions.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and external vendors to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
  • Support payroll audits and respond to tax notices from government agencies.
  • Maintain and update tax configurations within payroll systems (PeopleSoft, ADP, and others).
  • Assist with year-end processes including W-2 preparation and distribution.
  • Identify process improvements and automation opportunities within payroll operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3–7+ years of payroll tax experience, including multi-state payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with PeopleSoft, ADP, and/or other payroll systems.
  • Experience managing high-volume payroll environments.
  • Proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or relevant certification (CPP – Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus.
  • Experience with system implementations or payroll migrations.
  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controls.
  • Experience working with third-party payroll vendors.
