The Payroll Manager will play a critical role in leading day‑to‑day, hands‑on payroll processing and compliance for a multi‑state employee population of approximately 3,000 employees. This role sits at the center of an evolving payroll organization following a major integration and is ideal for someone who has grown from payroll specialist to manager and understands payroll from the ground up.

With operations spanning the U.S. and internationally, the firm is focused on building scalable, best‑in‑class operational functions to support long‑term growth. Payroll is a core priority, with recent system integrations and investments in people, technology, and process improvement.
Description
- Lead end‑to‑end, multi‑state payroll processing across multiple entities.
- Maintain payroll data integrity (new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, benefits, timecards).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and tax laws (including CA and NY).
- Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries.
- Partner with HR and Finance on reconciliations, reporting, and audits.
- Support system optimization and process improvements (ADP Workforce Now; Workday a plus).
- Assist with year‑end activities including W‑2s and tax filings.
- Mentor and support payroll specialists, providing coverage and guidance as needed.
- Help shape payroll policies, procedures, and best practices during continued integration.
Profile
A successful Payroll Manager should have:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi‑state payroll.
- Hands‑on payroll processing experience required (not oversight‑only).
- ADP Workforce Now experience required; Workday a plus.
- Strong payroll compliance and tax knowledge.
- Financial services or professional services experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical mindset.
- Excellent communication skills; able to interact with employees at all levels.
- Professional, collaborative style with strong attention to detail.
