Job Summary:
The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for preparing and executing payroll by processing pay and deductions, issuing checks and maintaining records. This role is responsible for calculating correct paychecks by determining overtime, deductions, and bonuses calculations.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
Processes biweekly and monthly payroll accurately and timely using best practices.
Calculates correct paychecks by determining overtime, deductions, and bonuses calculations.
Processes, verifies and validates hours from time and attendance system.
Processes garnishments and child support orders.
Verifies hours for accuracy of wages and tax deductions.
Responds to payroll inquiries from employees and managers and resolve issues with a high level of customer service and integrity.
Pays employees by running processes, printing paychecks and sending electronic transfers to bank accounts.
Identifies and resolves issues by examining output, researching policies and procedures, answering questions.
Updates payroll records by entering or reviewing changes in hours worked, exemptions, deductions and garnishments.
Analyzes, documents and resolves problems related to the payroll system (PeopleSoft 9.1). Performs regular testing of bundles and patches from PeopleSoft. Plans, tests, analyzes and implements new system functionality to meet evolving business needs.
Collaborates with team members as necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
Prepares reports by compiling summaries or earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages, complying with state and federal regulations and international treaties.
Determines payroll liabilities by validating the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
Complies with payroll guidelines by following state, federal and university policies and procedures.
Works closely with the Payroll Manager to develop strategies to increase productivity and accuracy.
Assists in the development of strategies and implementation of checks and balances to assure accuracy of each payroll.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
