Job Title: Payroll Assistant
Location: Manhattan, New York
Duration: 3+ Months (Possible Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay Rate: $32/hr on W2

Job Description

Seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to support payroll and timekeeping operations in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience handling payroll processes, timekeeping audits, employee leave tracking, and payroll adjustments while ensuring compliance and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Review, audit, and process employee timesheets for accuracy and compliance
  • Monitor missed punches, overtime, pay differentials, and time entries
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll-related adjustments
  • Track and manage employee leave records including FMLA and other leave types
  • Investigate and resolve timekeeping discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate payroll documentation and records
  • Support payroll processing schedules and deadlines
  • Handle confidential employee and payroll information with discretion

Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of payroll and timekeeping experience
  • Experience with garnishments, taxes, and year-end payroll activities
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business, HR, Accounting, or related field
  • Experience supporting large employee populations preferred
  • Familiarity with union contracts and public sector payroll is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Experience with Oracle, PeopleSoft, or similar HR/payroll systems
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work across multiple systems simultaneously
