Description
JOB SUMMARY: Uniformed officers are the first point of contact between the public and the department. Officers will, at all times, within jurisdictional limits, endeavor to prevent crime, preserve the peace, protect life and property, detect and arrest violators of the law, and enforce the laws of the United States, the State of Wyoming, and all local ordinances, in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and orders of the jurisdiction and the Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following; other duties may be assigned.
LAW ENFORCEMENT: Patrols within the jurisdictional limits of the City of Riverton as assigned, investigating and documenting violations of local, state, or federal laws; takes appropriate action on violations by verbal or written warnings, citation/summons, affidavit, or arrests; protects life and property; participates in problem-oriented policing; responds to emergencies and controls hazardous situations; provides security checks; responds to requests for assistance form citizens; transports prisoners to and from the county jail. Performs traffic control, investigation, and enforcement. Investigates crimes, conducts interviews with witnesses and suspects, collects found property and evidence, testifies in court, enforces court orders, and executes orders of arrest and search warrants. Responds to high-risk situations and participates in crisis resolution and problem-solving; uses force as necessary. Prepares accident, offense, incident, arrest, evidence, property, missing persons, citation and affidavits, and other forms and reports.
EQUIPMENT CERTIFICATIONS: Operates and maintains certification with various police equipment including but not limited to assigned firearms, assigned less than lethal devices, intoximeter, and radar.
INTER-AGENCY COOPERATION: Assists the fire department, ambulance, and other agencies when requested. Represents the department with professionalism and integrity in all inter-agency transactions.
SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT UNIT: May be assigned to special enforcement units such as Bicycle Patrol, Special Response Team, K-9 Patrol, or Division of Criminal Investigation Task Force.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Exercises supervision over personnel as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of a Sergeant and administrative and general supervision by the Captain and Chief of Police. Receives operational supervision from an Officer in Charge as assigned.
