Join our team as a Patient Services Representative in our General Surgery Clinic and play a key role in delivering a welcoming, efficient experience for our patients!
This Monday-Friday position offers a consistent daytime schedule from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional flexibility for 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM shifts, and no evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements, supporting a strong work-life balance.
In this role, you'll serve as the first point of contact for patients, supporting check-in/check-out, scheduling, and overall clinic flow while collaborating closely with a dedicated care team. While prior PSR experience is preferred, we're open to candidates who bring strong customer service skills and a willingness to learn. Responsibilities:
- Educate patients about their financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources.
- Verify insurance benefits online or by phone.
- Obtain patient or family signatures for treatment and financial consent, following HIPAA rules.
- Direct phone calls to the appropriate areas or clinical providers.
- Perform administrative tasks like scanning medical records and faxing.
- Greet patients warmly and assist with check-in, either through self-arrival technology or at the desk.
- Collect copayments and other patient payments.
- Update patient registration information and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Help patients navigate the healthcare system and provide clear instructions.
- Take action to resolve service issues and ensure continuity of care.
- Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits.
- Promote and assist with MyUPMC patient portal registration.
- Perform tasks according to system-wide competencies and behaviors.
- Carry out other assigned duties as needed.
- Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment and proficient typing skills are preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
