Sigma, Inc., is looking for a Patient Safety Specialist to work on-site in Aurora, CO

The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting in the management and coordination of the patient safety program. The Patient Safety Specialist will work with Patient Safety leadership, operational and medical leadership in analyzing the human, organizational, and system factors contributing to adverse events and work with them to identify and implement risk reduction strategies that promote patient safety.

Essential Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Assists Patient Safety leadership in the management and coordination of the patient safety program.
  • Facilitate safety improvement initiatives as identified by patient safety leadership; trends in event reported data, issues identified in event reviews, as well as other internal and external priorities.
  • Facilitates cause analysis for serious safety events and other safety events as identified.
  • Facilitates risk assessment to proactively identify and mitigate risks to patient safety.
  • Serves as an internal consulting liaison and resource for patient safety improvement initiatives.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of methods to improve patient safety practices.
  • Assists in supporting and collaborating with the Accreditation Department to assure that expectations for continuous standards compliance are met.
  • Maintains knowledge of JCAHO, National Patient Safety Goals, and other regulatory and non-regulatory standards.
  • Assists in supporting and collaborating with the Risk Management Department in identifying, implementing, and evaluating risk reduction strategies.
  • Assists in supporting and collaborating with the Performance Improvement Department in the identification of improvement opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare related field required.
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in patient safety, human factors, error management, and/or cultural/organizational change.
  • Master's degree in healthcare or Patient Safety can substitute for two (2) years of required experience

Licensure(s): Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required for BSN.
