Job Summary

The Virtual Patient Safety Attendant is responsible for providing continuous virtual observation of assigned patients to ensure their safety and well-being. This role serves as the first line of notification to hospital staff regarding changes in patient conditions or behaviors that may present safety risks. The Virtual Patient Safety Attendant uses two-way audio software to verbally redirect patients and works closely with hospital staff to respond to safety emergencies. All actions are performed in compliance with hospital policies and confidentiality standards.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains continuous observation of up to 16 virtual patients, identifying and reporting potentially unsafe activities or behaviors.
  • Notifies nursing staff immediately when a patient requires assistance, ensuring timely intervention to address patient safety risks.
  • Utilizes two-way audio software to verbally redirect patients as needed to prevent injury or hazardous situations.
  • Participates in shift hand-offs, providing a detailed report on patient behaviors and any relevant safety concerns to oncoming staff.
  • Completes documentation for all virtual patients, including recording interventions and communications with bedside staff.
  • Communicates promptly with hospital personnel when a patient poses a risk to themselves or others, ensuring timely support is provided.
  • Assists in the training of new staff, conducting competency checks to ensure adherence to virtual patient safety attendant protocols.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures related to patient safety, privacy, and hospital compliance.
  • Engages in continuing education and training to stay up to date with virtual sitter practices and technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of acute care experience working in a hospital preferred
  • 1-2 years experience as a Certification Nurse Assistant/Medical Assistant (CNA) preferred

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate virtual monitoring for various patient populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, providing clear verbal instructions while maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain concentration during continuous observation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and respond to potential safety risks.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to document patient activities and interactions.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations, effectively managing emergencies as they arise.
