Patient Access Representative – Emergency, Outpatient, and Inpatient ServicesOverview

This role is the first point of contact for patients across Emergency, Outpatient/Clinic, and Inpatient departments. The primary focus is to deliver an exceptional, welcoming experience while ensuring accurate registration and support throughout the patient visit.

Emergency Department


+ Serve as the first person patients encounter upon arrival, creating a warm and supportive environment.


+ Work in a 24/7/365 emergency setting with rotating 12‑hour shifts (up to 40 hours/week).


+ Sample rotation:


+ Week A: Monday, Tuesday, half-day Friday, Saturday, Sunday


+ Week B: Wednesday, Thursday, half-day Friday




+ Cross-trained in multiple ED areas:


+ Front Triage Desk: Register walk-in patients.


+ Ambulance Bay: Register patients arriving by EMS or air transport.


+ Bedside Registration: Use portable devices to verify demographics, update insurance information, collect consents, and ensure all documents are accurately entered into the EMR.


+ Support self-pay processes and complete Medicare-required documentation when applicable.




Outpatient / Clinic


+ Greet patients and ensure a smooth, efficient check-in.


+ Locate and update patient information in the EMR with a high degree of accuracy.


+ Verify insurance plans and demographic details.


+ Assist with scheduling follow-up appointments and completing charge entry.


+ Address basic questions related to labs, pharmacy, or radiology services.


Main Admitting / Inpatient


+ Welcome patients and support a variety of hospital services, including lab, radiology, surgery, and inpatient admissions.


+ Verify demographic and insurance information in the EMR.


+ Provide answers to common questions regarding departments such as lab, pharmacy, or radiology.


+ Travel to inpatient units as needed to complete bedside registration.


Required Skills & Experience


+ 2+ years of work experience


+ Strong customer service abilities


+ Empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others


+ Strong technology and computer navigation skills


+ Experience working in or with EMR systems is a plus

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
