Job Summary

The Patient Registration Coordinator is responsible for patient registration, insurance verification, appointment scheduling, and front office operations. This role serves as the first point of contact for patients and plays a critical role in ensuring accurate insurance eligibility, prior authorizations, and patient information to support timely access to care and reimbursement.

The ideal candidate has experience in patient registration, patient access, insurance verification, medical reception, or healthcare administration and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Register and pre-register new and returning patients

  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, copays, deductibles, and patient financial responsibility.

  • Obtain prior authorizations and referrals as required.

  • Maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, billing, and clinical information in the EHR/EMR system.

  • Schedule appointments and patient orientations.

  • Collect copays and patient payments at the time of service.

  • Greet patients, answer phones, and provide exceptional customer service.

  • Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to coordinate patient admissions and care.

  • Support revenue cycle processes by ensuring complete and accurate registration and insurance documentation.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and perform general administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience/Requirements:

  • One (1) year of healthcare, patient registration, patient access, insurance verification, medical receptionist, or front desk experience
  • Insurance verification is required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience verifying commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care benefits.
  • Knowledge of insurance eligibility verification and prior authorization processes.
  • Experience using EHR/EMR systems.
  • Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.

Job or State Requirements

Medical Insurance Verification Required, Previous Patient Coordination experience preferred, but not required
