General Duties

  • Review and verify patient insurance coverage and benefits for oncology services.
  • Provide clear and compassionate explanations of co-pays, deductibles, coinsurance and non-covered services.
  • Identify opportunities for insurance optimization, including secondary coverage, medical eligibility or financial assistance programs
  • Collaborate with case management, social work teams, and outsource support to aid underinsured or uninsured patients.
  • Generate and communicate cost estimates for physician ordered oncology treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation, imaging and surgical procedures.
  • Apply, claim, and track patient assistance programs.
  • Assist patients with understanding their bills and resolve discrepancies.
  • Collect upfront payments as necessary based on financial policies
  • Offer and set up flexile payment plans tailored to patient needs and financial capacity

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in healthcare financial counseling, patient access or medical billing
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits/plans, medical terminology and healthcare billing practices.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates degree in healthcare related field (preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • N/A

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of insurance processes and medical terminology
  • ICD-10 and CPT coding understanding
  • Detail - oriented with strong organizational abilities
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (ER) and other healthcare software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Bilingual (Spanish or tother language) a plus

Certification as a Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRC) or Certified Financial Counselor (CFC) is desirable
