Position Summary
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians in a fast-paced orthopedic surgery center. This role supports pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) workflows while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and efficient clinical operations.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care

Assist with patient intake, including vital signs, height/weight, and medical history verification
Prepare patients for surgery (gowning, positioning, skin prep assistance)
Assist with patient transport to and from pre-op, operating room, and PACU
Provide post-operative support, including monitoring comfort and assisting with discharge readiness
Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly
Clinical Support

Assist nurses and surgical team with basic clinical tasks and procedures
Maintain clean, stocked, and organized patient care areas (pre-op, OR, PACU)
Turn over rooms between cases according to infection control standards
Ensure proper handling, cleaning, and storage of equipment and supplies
Support specimen handling and transport per protocol
Administrative & Documentation

Accurately document patient care activities in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Verify patient identity and ensure compliance with safety protocols
Assist with chart preparation and documentation as needed
Patient Experience & Safety

Provide compassionate, patient-centered care and maintain patient dignity
Follow all infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA guidelines
Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Qualifications
Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a Patient Care Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Medical Assistant program preferred
Previous experience in a surgical center, hospital, or orthopedic setting preferred
Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or obtained within a specified timeframe)
Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of basic patient care principles
Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to maintain professionalism and composure under pressure
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and lift patients or equipment (up to 50 lbs with assistance)
Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
Ability to assist with patient transfers and positioning
Work Environment
Fast-paced orthopedic ambulatory surgery center
Exposure to clinical environments, bodily fluids, and surgical equipment
Requires adherence to strict sterile and infection control protocols
