Help Patients Regain Mobility, Independence, and Quality of Life

Are you passionate about patient care and looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day? As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) on the Medical Ortho Unit at Deaconess Gateway's Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital, you'll be an essential member of a collaborative healthcare team dedicated to helping patients recover, heal, and return to the activities they enjoy most.

This role offers hands-on patient care experience in a specialized orthopedic environment where teamwork, innovation, and exceptional patient outcomes are at the heart of everything we do.

What You'll Do

Working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals, you'll provide direct patient care and support that promotes comfort, safety, and recovery. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting patients with personal care needs such as bathing, oral hygiene, toileting, and linen changes
  • Supporting mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and transfers
  • Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient observations
  • Recording important information in patient charts
  • Providing compassionate care and emotional support to patients and families
  • Contributing to a safe, positive, and patient-centered care environment

Your care and encouragement play an important role in helping patients achieve successful recoveries and regain their independence.

Why You'll Love This Unit

The Medical Ortho Unit is a 37-bed department featuring 32 inpatient beds and 5 short-stay beds, located within the state-of-the-art Orthopedic and Neuroscience Hospital at Deaconess Gateway.

This medical-surgical unit specializes in caring for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures, including hip, knee, and shoulder replacements. Team members have the opportunity to work closely with patients throughout their recovery journey and witness the life-changing impact of successful treatment and rehabilitation.

What makes this unit unique:

  • Specialized focus on orthopedic and joint replacement care
  • Opportunities to help patients regain mobility and independence following surgery
  • Modern facility featuring all private patient rooms designed for patient comfort and family involvement
  • Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team that includes nurses, therapists, case managers, social workers, and support staff
  • Exposure to rehabilitation-focused care and recovery milestones
  • A culture built on teamwork, positivity, and mutual support
  • A welcoming environment that values learning, growth, and exceptional patient care

For many patients, recovery begins with their first steps after surgery—and you'll be part of the team helping them achieve those milestones.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking compassionate, dependable individuals who enjoy working with people and thrive in a team-oriented environment. If you're positive, motivated, and committed to helping patients through their recovery process, you'll find this role both meaningful and rewarding.
