Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) serves in a combination role and is competent to perform as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Telemetry Technician (TT) and/or a Unit Secretary (US). Demonstrates flexibility and accepts changing assignments and job duties at the beginning and throughout the shift as requested. Demonstrates flexibility and floats to other departments needing support in any one of the three positions. Provides direct and indirect, age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care under the direct supervision of the RN as assigned. Seeks information and clarification of duties throughout shift as necessary. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia and recognition course and completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of School of Nursing fundamentals required. Minimum of six months experience as a patient care assistant, telemetry technician or unit secretary preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care
Knowledge of scope of practice for unlicensed healthcare team members
Able to read, write legibly and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality
Use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Outlook, organization electronic medical record
Troubleshoot patient care equipment
Perform basic non-licensed patient care activities
