    Job Title: Patient Care Assistant

    Unit: Telemetry

    Employment Type: Full-time

    Shift: 12 hour day shift (7:00 am - 7:30 pm) - Every other weekend and rotating holidays

    Location: Nazareth Hospital - Philadelphia, PA

    Position Purpose:

    The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is responsible for direct patient care tasks as assigned and under supervision of professional nursing personnel. Also provides indirect care to maintain unit functions as directed by the professional nursing staff i.e. care and cleaning of specific equipment, transportation of patients, stocking of supplies and equipment, etc.

    As a Patient Care Assistant, you will:

    • Performs hygiene/comfort measures including bath/shower, mouth care, shaving etc.

    • Assists the licensed nurse in monitoring/evaluation of the patient (vital signs, intake and output, weighing).

    • Collects lab specimens and cultures according to nursing practice standards (sputum, stool, urine, wound).

    • Cares for an agitated/confused patient by utilizing de-escalation techniques.

    • Assists patients in activities of daily living.

    • Uses appropriate patient transfer techniques.

    • Maintains patient body alignment and positioning (assist with normal range of motion, hip precautions, pressure relief of high risk areas: heels, sacrum, scapula, hips, etc.)

    • Acts as a patient advocate and upholds patient's rights.

    • Promotes and maintains a safe, clean and orderly environment.

    • Consults and refers to other Health Care professionals.

    • Refers ethical concerns to appropriate resources.

    • Cooperates with all areas in the admission and transfer of patients throughout the hospital to ensure efficiency.

    • Updates licensed nursing staff on a regular basis throughout shift.

    • Maintains open communication and dialogue with Registered Nurse throughout shift to ensure that safe appropriate care is always being maintained.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • HS Diploma or GED Required.

    • Certified Nurse Assistant preferred or current nursing student.

    • Current BLS required.
