JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is accountable for supporting patient care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse in the clinic setting and on inpatient nursing units. The PCA I works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to ensure patient care needs are met. The PCA I performs patient care activities as delegated and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA I is competent in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA I demonstrates personal and professional effectiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education a. Education: High School diploma or GED or technical training appropriate to the specialty area. b. Licensure: Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant. Nursing students actively attending an accredited nursing program or who have graduated are exempt of certification requirement provided a satisfactory completion of the first clinical foundations course. If hired prior to January 2021, certification is not required. c. Other certificates as required by unit/service clinic.
Work Experience a. One year of related clinical experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge a. SAMA certification within 90 days of hire. b. EKG and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required as applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
