Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Unit Supervisor/Clinical Manager/Director of Surgical Services, the Patient Advocate is responsible for communicating to the patient family members and visitor’s surgery and or procedure wait times, consults with the doctor, tracking the patient flow. The Patient Advocate communicates with Day Surgery Staff when patients arrive and escorts them to the Day Surgery area. The Patient Advocate is also responsible for maintaining a calm and caring environment among staff, patient families and volunteers. The Patient Advocate also coordinates volunteers through out the shift.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation and lighting.
  • Complies with department, facility and system policies and procedures; is at work when scheduled and completes work in a timely manner.
  • Promotes positive customer relations and contributes to a supportive and cooperative working environment.
  • Supports and exhibits behavior consistent with quality service.
  • Reports any problems with patients to the Unit Supervisor/Clinical Manager/Director.
  • Helps direct visitors and patients in and out of the hospital.
  • Participates in the communication with family members on tracking patients (e.g. patient was moved to PACU at approx time….)
  • Participates in the communication with patient/family about their length of wait time in the Surgery Department.
  • Attend staff meetings and other educational opportunities as needed.
  • Actively participates in a minimum of (1) unit/hospital performance improvement activity.
  • Assumes responsibility for orientation of new personnel, as delegated by the Unit Supervisor/Clinical Manager or Director of Surgical Services.
  • Employee reflects HCA values and is sensitivity to HCA ethics and compliance principals in his/her daily activities
