Position Overview:
The Patient Access Specialist is the first point of contact for our patients, managing registration, scheduling, and insurance verification. This role ensures accurate records, supports clinic operations, and delivers a positive patient experience through strong customer service and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and register patients; collect and verify demographic and insurance information
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments
- Obtain insurance authorizations and verify eligibility/benefits
- Collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances
- Maintain accurate patient records in the system
- Ensure compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA)
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and clinical staff
- Resolve basic patient inquiries and direct issues appropriately
Qualifications:
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
- Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse people groups.
- Intermediate to advanced phone skills; able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of Clinic patients/clients/visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.
- Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the department.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills. Additional language abilities are desirable.
- Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures.
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to manage a variety of tasks.
- Willingness to work evenings or outside events as needed.
- Basic to intermediate computer knowledge and skills.
