Patient Access Specialist – Rare Disease

Cary, NC | Hybrid (In Office 2 Days Per Week)
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
• $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
• Monday – Friday, 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
• Employment Type: W2, temp to hire
ROLE IMPACT
Join a team dedicated to helping patients access specialized therapies and navigate complex healthcare processes. As a Patient Access Specialist – Rare Disease, you will serve as a key point of contact for patients, providers, and support teams, ensuring timely access to treatment through coordination of coverage verification, reimbursement support, order fulfillment, and ongoing therapy management. Success in this role is driven by attention to detail, service excellence, and a commitment to delivering a positive patient experience.
• Review, verify, and update healthcare coverage information to support patient enrollment and prescription processing activities.
• Investigate and resolve reimbursement, claims, and coverage-related issues while maintaining accurate account documentation.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical offices, and internal teams to facilitate coverage approvals and required treatment access processes.
• Respond to incoming inquiries regarding service requests, account status, financial assistance resources, and order updates.
• Coordinate refill outreach, shipment scheduling, payment collection, and ongoing patient follow-up to support continuity of care.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in healthcare support, patient services, pharmacy operations, insurance verification, reimbursement, or a related healthcare environment.
• Experience working with healthcare benefits, coverage determinations, claims processing, or patient access workflows.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality standards, and healthcare compliance requirements.
• Strong communication, customer service, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and healthcare-related systems.
