GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager/Supervisor and the Patient Access Manager/Supervisor; the Patient Access Representative is responsible for performing all aspects of the Patient Access function including registration of patients, rating appropriate financial class, obtaining appropriate insurance information and scheduling patient appointments while maintaining department quality standards.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

1 . Maintains a minimum of 98% accuracy in the Patient Access registration and pre-registration system.

  1. Ensures 100% of inpatient admissions are verified for benefits coverage within one day of admission.

  2. Ensures orders are completed and received before scheduling and registration process occurs 100% of the time.

  3. Demonstrates strong interpersonal and persuasive abilities in order to establish and maintain a positive relationship with Patient Access staff, patients and patient families, third party payors, government agencies, fiscal intermediaries, utilization review and providers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One year clerical experience

  • Ability to use a computer

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic medical terminology knowledge

  • Previous registration and/or insurance verification experience in a medical setting
