Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking compassionate and customer-focused Patient Access Representatives for contract opportunities in Chattanooga, TN through October 2026. This position supports patient registration, admissions, scheduling, and front-end hospital operations within a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Candidates must be comfortable working in high-pressure settings, including Emergency Department environments where visible trauma and stressful patient situations may occur. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, empathy, strong customer service skills, and the ability to maintain accuracy in fast-paced clinical environments.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Registration & Customer Service
  • Greet patients and visitors while providing exceptional customer service
  • Complete patient registration and obtain complete and accurate demographic information
  • Support patient admissions, pre-admissions, discharge processes, and reception functions
  • Explain and obtain required patient and hospital forms including consents and documentation
  • Create, organize, and maintain patient files and records
  • Scan and maintain protected health information documentation accurately

Scheduling & Administrative Support
  • Schedule patient appointments and diagnostic procedures as needed
  • Enter and maintain scheduling information within system platforms
  • Provide appointment instructions and communicate scheduling details to patients
  • Support departmental workflow and administrative functions

Insurance Verification & Financial Responsibilities
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements
  • Assist with financial clearance activities and work queues
  • Educate patients regarding financial responsibilities and payment obligations
  • Collect payments utilizing approved compliance and collection procedures
  • Complete cash handling and reconciliation activities in accordance with established procedures
  • Support authorization and payer notification processes as required

Hospital Operations & Compliance
  • Review physician orders and medical terminology for accuracy
  • Maintain compliance with hospital procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Follow patient privacy standards and documentation protocols
  • Build collaborative relationships with patients, staff, and healthcare teams
  • Maintain professionalism and accuracy in stressful or high-volume situations

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Medical Terminology coursework required
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Strong computer skills including keyboarding and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to navigate multiple software systems and applications
  • Customer service experience required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-volume, fast-paced environments
  • Ability to maintain compassion and professionalism during stressful situations

Preferred Qualifications
  • 0–1 year administrative experience within a medical office, hospital, health insurance, or related healthcare setting
  • Some college coursework preferred
  • Prior hospital or healthcare environment experience preferred
  • Understanding of insurance verification and third-party payer requirements preferred
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance practices preferred
  • Experience supporting Emergency Department or patient access operations preferred

Work Environment
  • Hospital-based environment supporting patients and clinical staff
  • Exposure to high-stress healthcare situations including emergency settings
  • Ability to work around patients and active treatment areas
  • Fast-paced work environment requiring strong multitasking skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the facility
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to remain productive in active healthcare environments
