Responsibilities:

In this role the Pathologist Assistant will perform the following job duties:

  • Grossing of specimens, gross photography, accessioning of surgical specimens, instruction of residents and medical students in handling gross surgical specimens
  • Performance of frozen sections and all other related duties
  • Will work in a CLIA certified surgical grossing laboratory and will direct and assist in the daily workflow of the staff and house staff of the laboratory
  • Proper grossing at UF Health, as a tertiary care center, requires proper specimen selection for the various tests being requested and for accurate diagnosis and frozen section performance
  • Tests may involve flow cytometry, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, and frozen sections
  • Sample selection is critical to have the proper amount, type, and location

Schedule

FTE: 1.0

Shift Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm

Days of Week: Monday-Friday

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Must meet qualifications for CLIA high complexity testing personnel.

Option 1: Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited American Association of Pathologists' Assistant program. Option 2: Bachelors' degree from an accredited college/university and completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant program within the last 5 years.

Option 3: Medical degree (including foreign Master's level) or higher may substitute for Bachelor's degree with five years of clinical experience in Anatomic Pathology and clinical experience within the past 24 months.
