Responsibilities
In this role the Pathologist Assistant will perform the following job duties:
- Grossing of specimens, gross photography, accessioning of surgical specimens, instruction of residents and medical students in handling gross surgical specimens
- Performance of frozen sections and all other related duties
- Will work in a CLIA certified surgical grossing laboratory and will direct and assist in the daily workflow of the staff and house staff of the laboratory
- Proper grossing at UF Health, as a tertiary care center, requires proper specimen selection for the various tests being requested and for accurate diagnosis and frozen section performance
- Tests may involve flow cytometry, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, and frozen sections
- Sample selection is critical to have the proper amount, type, and location

- FTE: 1.0
- Shift Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm
- Days of Week: Monday-Friday
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must meet qualifications for CLIA high complexity testing personnel.
- Option 1: Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited American Association of Pathologists Assistant program.
- Option 2: Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university and completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists Assistant program within the last 5 years.
- Option 3: Medical degree (including foreign Masters level) or higher may substitute for Bachelors degree with five years of clinical experience in Anatomic Pathology and clinical experience within the past 24 months.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
- Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose.
