JOB SUMMARY

To provide accurate inventory of parts, supplies, vehicles and equipment, which contribute to the efficient operation of the Transportation Department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular and punctual attendance required; full compliance with TCSS sick leave policy.
  • Issue parts, supplies and/or equipment from the parts room to the bus shop employees.
  • Receive and stock inventory into the parts room.
  • Assist with ordering supplies from approved vendors, as necessary.
  • Assist in the processing of invoices, purchase orders and work orders.
  • Keep maintenance records on each vehicle, which includes work performed, parts used and printing monthly reports.
  • Maintain driver reports tickets monthly for all buses.
  • Assist in clerical duties such as filing, preparing monthly and annual reports as necessary.
  • Drive buses as needed in emergency situations.
  • Monitor the radio and answer calls as required.
  • Pick up parts from approved vendors as necessary.
  • Enter work orders, vendor invoices and fuel invoices into the computerized inventory program.
  • Pick up and deliver vehicles to designated schools or other locations as necessary.
  • Assist in managing Fuel Tank levels at assigned fuel sites as necessary.
  • Responsible for conducting Parts Inventory twice a year or as necessary.
  • Assist in vehicle and equipment inventory.
  • Assist with keeping up with vehicles that need tags and insurance cards and reporting it to the shop foreman.
  • Assist with minor automotive repairs as necessary.
  • Practice and promote high standards of standards of safety, cleanliness and efficiency in all work areas.
  • Assume other responsible and equitable job - related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. Valid Alabama, CDL and school bus driver's licenses. Knowledge of all state and federal licensing requirements and local regulations required to operate a school bus and automobile. Understanding of the geographical surroundings of Tuscaloosa County. Ability to use microcomputers for word processing, database, and spreadsheets. Subject to drug tests as required by law and School Board policy for transporting students and operating school-owned vehicles.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS

Fluency in written and spoken English is essential. Organized thought processes, polite and respectful of others. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical dexterity, mobility and strength to stoop, climb, lift heavy weights, reach parts and supplies and perform minor mechanical duties.

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

Maintain good relationships with drivers, shop personnel and other school employees. Physically able to receive, issue, store and inventory parts, equipment and supplies.Ability to record and maintain all records pertaining to vehicle maintenance. Ability to record and inventory parts and supplies. Ability to make minor automotive repairs as necessary. Ability to use microcomputers. Ability to organize and file materials effectively and maintain accurate records. Knowledge, skills and ability to operate computer system. Ability to carry on the operations of the parts department and shop in the absence of the shop foreman.
