POSITION SUMMARY:

Requisition and issue supplies, parts and equipment for vehicle maintenance, perform inventory control and do related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Receive, store and issue material, supplies and equipment for the mechanics.
  • Procure tools, materials and parts for stock inventory.
  • Maintain current catalogs, manuals and other supply information related to the operation.
  • Pick up parts when necessary.
  • Performs clerical record keeping.
  • Perform cycle counting of parts inventory, and other duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Assume additional responsibilities as required. Keep work area clean daily.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and minimum of three (3) years experience as a parts clerk (Prefer experience with heavy trucks). Knowledge of basic inventory practice, ability to lookup truck and automotive parts electronically, basic purchasing and receiving procedures. Ability to maintain accurate records of transactions, inventory on hand and stock level. Ability to use Microsoft Office and fleet management software. Ability to deal effectively with others, including union and management personnel. Ability to operate a Forklift. Valid Driver's License required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of basic inventory practice.
  • Ability to look up automotive parts electronically.
  • Basic knowledge of purchasing and receiving procedures.
  • Ability to run daily activities in a parts room.
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions, inventory on hand and stock level.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and fleet management systems.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, including union and management personnel.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:

Valid Driver's License required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a shop environment with moderate inside temperatures, and may be performed outside as well. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in the office. Entire office and all City vehicles are smoke-free.
