Overview: The Construction Shop Hand plays a key support role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient equipment yard and shop. This hands-on position assists mechanics, supports equipment and parts logistics, and helps keep vehicles, equipment, and the shop environment in working order. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to pitch in wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and empty garbage from shop, bays, and yard areas
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of bays and shop floor
- Perform routine upkeep of the building exterior (sweeping, trash pickup, etc.)
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks
- Operate a forklift to move parts, equipment, and supplies
- Conduct parts runs and deliveries to mechanics, superintendents, or field crews
- Assist mechanics with basic tasks (mechanic's hand)
- Wash and clean trucks, equipment, and other fleet vehicles
- Support field deliveries and job site drop-offs
- Work closely with Yard Manager to keep the yard clean, organized, and safe
- Serve as a helper to the Lowboy Driver as needed
Other general labor and support tasks as assigned by the Yard Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license required
- Willing and able to obtain and maintain a Swank Driver File, including a PennDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card)
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, MVR check, and background check
- Forklift experience preferred; certification a plus (can be provided)
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Must be able to regularly lift, push, pull, and carry at least 40 lbs.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crawling required
- Will work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- May occasionally use a computer, phone, or mobile device for work-related tasks
- Exposure to construction shop and yard environments, including noise, dust, and moving equipment
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (spoken and written)
