Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides administrative support to the office and performs related work as required. The Clerk carries out any and all administrative duties including, but not limited to, data entry, records management and public services.

Essential Functions

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • High school graduation or GED

Preferred:

  • Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field

SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 1 year of responsible clerical experience preferably with legal procedures, terminology, the court system, or customer service experience
  • Must be able to obtain CJP (Criminal Justice Practitioner) certification upon employment
  • Complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) training upon employment
  • Must be loyal and able to keep the confidences of the office as required by law
  • General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook
  • Exceptional skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with County staff, attorneys, and citizens
  • Proficient verbal and written skills to communicate information and directions to courts, attorneys, citizens, and staff/officials with agencies of the State of Texas
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow State laws and regulations related to the position
  • Ability to accurately sort, file, and retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical, or chronological systems
  • Ability to work effectively with and tactfully communicate with difficult and/or hostile individuals and render assistance to individuals of below average mental capacity. Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and discretion in contacts with court officials, attorneys, county employees, criminal defendants and public
  • Work independently, quickly, accurately and within time limitations
  • Must have reliable transportation.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines; the employee must frequently change tasks, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work closely with others as part of a team. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Majority of work is indoors in office environment. Work at the jail includes contact with inmates without close supervision from the correctional officers. Continuous contact in the office with the public and persons accused or convicted of crimes.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Defendant arrest information in the Public Safety Report System (PSRS)
  • Must learn and become proficient with the State Public Safety Report System (PSRS) - take and pass all required mandated training to be certified to access and perform data entry within the system.
  • Must learn and become proficient with the criminal justice databases used by McLennan County.
  • Provides administrative support for office which includes copying, labeling, scanning, and input of data.
  • Scans/files documentation for Pretrial Services office
  • Travels to the McLennan County Jail to preform the above duties.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are required
