Position Information

The Transportation Trainer will work in close collaboration with the Transportation Manager and Supervisor to deliver comprehensive education and training initiatives. The primary objective is to decrease the incidence of accidents and uphold stringent safety requirements for Senior Services bus drivers, as well as ensuring proficiency in driving routes. This multifaceted approach encompasses hands-on training sessions, theoretical instruction, and ongoing support to cultivate a safety-first culture and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Essential Functions

Provide training for new drivers including, but not limited to: pre-trip check, behind-the-wheel, post-trip check, and wheel-chair lift operation.

  • Provide continuous training for all team members
  • Provide post-accident retraining.
  • Provide retraining for drivers whom have been absent for more than 30 days.
  • Assist with pre-employment testing.
  • Assist with recertification of the drivers to meet ARC requirements.
  • Assist Transportation Manager and Supervisor when responding to accidents.
  • Reports all safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Research tips and techniques to prevent accidents to share with all drivers and the management team.
  • Transport clients to and from scheduled activities and appointments, obeys all traffic codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations; assists clients on and off bus; assists clients with mobile devices and or personal items; review route and schedule and makes changes as necessary; and reports to supervisor any changes in clients health/behavior.
  • Operates equipment: operates shuttle buses with lifts; uses radio equipment and electronic devices to receive assignments; conducts daily vehicle safety inspections; maintains daily logs and safety equipment inventory; keeps vehicles clean and fueled; reports all maintenance and safety concerns to supervisor; and drives vehicle to Fleet Maintenance for regular services.
  • Work closely with Fleet Management Department for vehicle maintenance.
  • Work closely with Risk Management Department for driving and vehicle safety.
  • Make deliveries as needed: delivers supplies, food, and commodities to clients and senior centers as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by a minimum of two years of experience as a driver.

Licenses and Certifications

Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, including appropriate endorsements.

  • Must possess and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Must attend training sessions as required to gain skills and knowledge for job performance. including but not limited to Defensive Driving, CPR, First Aid and other job-related trainings.

Physical Abilities

Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
