POSITION REPORTS TO: EPTA Operations Coordinator, EPTA General Manager

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None.

BLS COMPARABLE: 53-3021, Bus Drivers, Transit

LEADERSHIP: Provides co-worker leadership to others through motivation, team building, and providing feedback.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • In accordance with 49 CFR 391.23, a Motor Vehicle Report covering the previous three years will be obtained for the purpose of investigating the applicant's driving history.
  • As a safety-sensitive employee, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

POSITION PURPOSE: To provide outstanding public transportation service to City of Enid residents through the safe, timely, and efficient pick up and drop off of passengers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Drive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to dispatch routing in order to transport passengers, complying with all traffic regulations.
  • Park vehicles at loading areas so that passengers can board.
  • Report delays, accidents, or vehicle damage.
  • Communicate EPTA policies and procedures to passengers.
  • Instruct passengers to be seated and orderly while on vehicles. Address and resolve passenger concerns and conflicts.
  • Collect tickets or cash fares and distribute passes/coupon books.
  • Collect and maintain passenger revenues; record cash receipts and ticket fares; turn in shift revenues to dispatch.
  • Perform pre-shift inspection of the condition of a vehicles tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure working order prior to departure and upon return. Report damage and suggest repairs as needed.
  • Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Keep bus interiors and exterior clean for passengers.
  • Maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
  • Act as a dispatcher on an occasional basis to alleviate employee shortages and accommodate dispatcher lunches and breaks.
  • Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

Additional related training preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.

Traffic Regulations: Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to calculate fares.
  • Ability to clearly and efficiently communicate using a two-way radio.
  • Ability to read a city map.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

FINGER DEXTERITY:

Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.

VISUAL ABILITIES:

Normal vision, correctable with or without corrective lenses.

Normal vision includes the ability to identify basic colors and associate the meanings when driving a City vehicle, using various maps, or computer software programs.

Visual ability to recognize conditions of lights, weather, and communication panels.

Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships).

PHYSICAL STRENGTH:

PDC Level: Light Ability to ascend/descend 12" step.

LANGUAGE/COMPREHENSION:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY:

Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding and subtracting two digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10's and 100's.

Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight or distance measurement.

WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS:

Part-time: variable, not to exceed 28 hours per week, Monday through Saturday. Hours of operation are 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM Monday - Friday, and 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM on Saturday.

General staff meeting every month on 3rd Wednesday of the month for 1.5- 2.0 hours.

Due to operational nature of this public service, work on evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Other-Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other office personnel.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Outdoors but in an enclosed vehicle protected from extreme weather conditions.

NOISE LEVEL:

Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

OTHER WORK CONDITIONS:

Occasional exposure to fumes and airborne particles.

ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA

INTERMEDIATE

3-5 years experience.

Ability to fill in for Transit Dispatcher for short periods of time.

Defensive Driving Training.

Conversational Spanish.

Additional related training.

Knowledge of safety as it applies to position.

Valid CPR certification.

ADVANCED

6+ years experience.

Ability to fill in for Transit Dispatcher for extended periods of time.

Associate's Degree or equivalent in related field.

Spanish proficient.
