TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPTION

An individual in this class performs skilled repair and maintenance of all technology- related equipment as well as technical support for all technology-related systems. Employee provides technical support to users including, but not limited to, technical advice on equipment setup and operation, general troubleshooting, and software installation. Employee provides on-site assistance in classrooms, media centers, computer labs, and administrative offices. Employee identifies problems and takes appropriate corrective action. Typically, this employee will provide first response support.

REPORTS TO: Technology Director

PURPOSE: To provide support and promote the advancement of all technology within Yancey County Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a two-year college or technical school with related coursework and one-year experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degree in a technology related field and eighteen months experience in a K-12 educational environment preferred.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Job Functions

Assists with the installation of hardware, software, and related peripherals.

Ensures the maintenance of all computers, software, and local area networks by monitoring performance.

Effectively troubleshoots Chromebook, tablet, laptop, and desktop issues.

Performs routine imaging of devices and makes necessary upgrades to hardware and software.

Maintains accurate inventory and effectively uses the ticketing system to track routine repair and maintenance of equipment.

Refers complex problems to higher level technical support.

Additional Job Functions

Assists with network cable installation and termination.

Supports educational software used by the district including Google Apps, Microsoft Office, Adobe CC, and Classlink.

Other tasks assigned by the Technology Director.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver''s License. Be accessible after hours in the event of a network outage or scheduled event.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Classified Personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

General or strong knowledge of computers and related technology devices.

General knowledge of electronic devices and local area networks.

Understanding of mechanical, electronics, and computer principles as applied to the repair and maintenance of computers and peripherals.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
