What youll do on a typical day

This part-time Teacher Residency Coach position is primarily a field supervisor responsible for working closely with the Education Faculty/Program Director in providing guidance, support, and mentorship to residency students during their critical initial years in the classroom. This coaching position focuses on providing constructive feedback, and documentation of the progress of teachers to ensure their growth and success in their teaching careers. All efforts of the coach are intended to emphasize excellence in teaching and learning as well as promoting student success. This position reports directly to the Division Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences. This position has the following responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Promote the college mission, vision and values
  • Meet educational and licensure requirements established by NCCCS and NCDPI
  • Maintain currency in required training
  • Collaborate with the Program Director
  • Conduct on-site observations of students in their home teaching school
  • Maintain and report observation/evaluation data for students
  • Create coaching strategies for individual students
  • Track and report progress of students
  • Assist students in obtaining proficiency standards of EdTPA for initial licensure
  • Model professional behaviors in the classroom
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in the learning environment(s) to meet program needs

Your attributes

Successful candidates will possess:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Current elementary (K-6) NC Teacher licensure or qualify to renew professional teaching license
  • Minimum three years of successful elementary (K-6) teaching experience
  • Ability to travel to various school sites to conduct observations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in coaching/mentoring teachers
  • Strong knowledge of North Carolina educational standards, curriculum development, and instructional strategies

Experience working at a community college

Work environment

ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment; ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus and College locations; travel between campus locations may be required; and effective use of all forms of communication including use of computers.
