About Lawrence Public Schools and the Adult Learning Center:

Lawrence Public Schools is an urban district serving more than 14,000 students. The Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center. has been providing free Adult Basic Education and ESOL classes to the citizens of Lawrence, MA and the surrounding communities for more than 50 years. The ALC provides quality educational services to 700 - 900 students per year who desire to develop: English language, literacy, numeracy, and technology skills for further education, job training, and better employment. We also provide instruction in civics to help prepare students to pass the USCIS Citizenship Exam.

The Vision of the Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center is to ensure that all English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) students achieve the learning goals they have set upon entry into our program. By improving students' skills in the areas of academics, language, technology, and workforce development, we will increase their opportunities to enter college, to obtain an industry-recognized credential, to expand their career choices, to enjoy a family-sustaining wage, and to become effective citizens of their community.

About the Part Time Assistant Test Center Examiner Position:

The Assistant will be responsible for greeting, assisting and checking in customers for computer-based tests at the Lawrence Test Center, including the General Equivalency Diploma (GED), High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), the Para Pro Assessment, and the Massachusetts Teacher Educator License (MTEL). The test center is located on the second floor of the Adult Learning Center (255 Essex St. Lawrence, MA).

Reports to: The Test Examiner, the Principal of the Adult Learning Center, and the Director of Operations. The Assistant Test Center Examiner will work collaboratively with ALC staff, Lawrence Public Library staff, sending Adult Basic Education (ABE) providers, and all individuals interested in taking an exam at the Lawrence Test Center.

Responsibilities in conjunction with the Lawrence Test Center's Chief Examiner will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Greet all examinees respectfully and in a culturally responsive manner, and refer them to appropriate waiting area;

Assist examinees with checking in to the Test Center;

Maintain a calm, quiet, and respectful atmosphere appropriate to testing;

Advise examinees after the completion of the exam on how to get results;

Provide patience and respect for those examinees who may require special accommodations;

Attend all training required by Massachusetts Department of Education - Adult and Community Learning Services, Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center, ETS, and Pearson Vue;

Comply with school, district, city, and statewide policies, regulations, and laws;

Complete other duties as assigned.

Key Competencies:

Knowledge:

Familiarity with and interest in the field of Adult Basic Education, and HSE programs and exams;

Sound understanding of policies and procedures related to test center integrity and security;

Solid knowledge of test center practices designed to avoid testing irregularities or violations;

Demonstrated proficiency using computer-based test center software;

Knowledge of Massachusetts' DESE-ACLS program guidelines, performance indicators & benchmarks; College and Career Readiness Standards for Adults;

Professional Abilities:

Communicate professionally in all interactions with the public, examinees, and staff;

Proven history of successful collaboration;

Flexible & adaptable;

Possess and model high standards for self and of students;

Interest in staying current on trends the field of Adult Basic Education, and the High School Equivalency Credential;

Solutions-based approach to dealing with identified needs, problems, and or conflict;

Willingness to take initiative and succeed in a sometimes fast-paced test center while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges;

Qualifications:

High School Degree or Equivalency;

Proficiency using computer hardware and software;

Must be comfortable in a quiet testing environment;

Must be flexible in work hours and days;

Demonstrate ability to relate to diverse populations;

Requires confidentiality, accuracy in work and organizational skills;

At least three (3) years experience in a customer service related/education field;

Current Authorization to work in the United States.
