Lakeland Community College seeks a music director of Lakeland Jazz Impact, a full jazz big band composed of students in grades 8-12 teaching and presenting big band jazz music for three to four ticketed concerts per season at the Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center on the Lakeland Campus in Kirtland, Ohio. Jazz Impact also performs in other venues as determined by the director. This position will begin with the Fall 2026 semester in August 2026, with possible duties prior to the start of the semester related to recruitment, repertoire selection, and administrative preparation. Since the late 1960s, Lakeland Jazz Impact has drawn some of the finest young musicians in Northeast Ohio and challenged them to engage with big band jazz music, including solo improvisation and ensemble performance. Members are recruited from area middle- and high-school programs, and the band consistently performs music appropriate to college and university ensembles. Jazz Impact alumni have gone on to careers in music and music education in Northeast Ohio and beyond. The band rehearses on Wednesday afternoons during the Spring and Fall semesters and gives on-campus performances on Sunday afternoons.
