Position Summary

Potterville Public Schools is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and student centered School Nurse to support the health and wellness needs of students during the school day. This position plays an important role in helping students remain healthy, safe, and ready to learn by providing direct nursing services, supporting medical plans, responding to emergencies, training staff, and collaborating with families and outside providers.

The School Nurse will work daily from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will support student medical, mental health, and emergency response needs within the school setting.

Who Should Apply

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Experience working with pediatric populations
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a collaborative educational team

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Current BLS/CPR/AED certification
  • Michigan Department of Education Professional School Nurse Certificate
  • Public Health or Community Health experience
  • Previous school nursing experience

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing student health needs and developing Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs)

  • Providing and overseeing student health services within the nursing scope of practice

  • Training and supporting staff in delegated medical procedures, including:

  • Medication administration

  • Diabetes care

  • Asthma management

  • Allergy response

  • Seizure response

  • Participating in IEP and Section 504 meetings as appropriate

  • Conducting student health screenings and responding to emergent medical or mental health situations

  • Assisting with communicable disease prevention and response procedures

  • Collaborating with families, medical providers, and staff regarding student health concerns

  • Supporting Medicaid documentation and billing processes

  • Coordinating vision, hearing, and dental screening opportunities with local agencies

  • Maintaining confidentiality and accurate health documentation

  • Performing additional duties as assigned

Compensation

Compensation will be provided in accordance with applicable district policies, collective bargaining agreements, and approved salary schedules. Specific compensation details will be discussed with selected candidates. Compensation for this position is intended to remain competitive with comparable public school nursing positions within the region.
