POSITION PURPOSE: RISE: Launch is a voluntary program targeting "first time in college", or "first time back after a break", students. This program is designed to support students as they make their transition into college. Students meet once a week for one hour in a session and use hands-on activities and discussion to learn about topics like expectations, organization, responsibility, and resilience.
The facilitator will guide students in their session using a structured curriculum. Facilitators do not teach; they facilitate the opportunity for students to make meaningful connections by fostering discussion and encouraging participation while ensuring everyone is heard. Facilitators will follow the provided lesson plan/agenda to ensure each session is productive and focused so students can learn.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Follow the provided agenda and lesson plans to ensure each session is productive and focused. • Present information and facilitate individual and group participation/discussion. • Devote time to preparing for and facilitating RISE sessions weekly throughout the 16-week semester. • Allow time for set up and take down for each session, including technological needs, activities, and necessary materials. • Manage time effectively, both in balancing RISE program responsibilities with current/pre-existing job functions, specifically during the sessions by being able to complete lesson plans/agenda. • Participate in check-ins with RISE Facilitator Team, yearly facilitator training, and other meetings as needed. • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that fosters engagement in RISE and encourages students to incorporate and utilize information from sessions into their daily life. • Take attendance, record student engagement and interaction as directed, and submit appropriate documentation each week. • Collaborate with other departments and professors at your campus location to promote and encourage student attendance in RISE, as well as extracurricular activities, workshops, resources, and opportunities at Navarro College. • Attend mandatory information session, observations, and interview during application process. • Attend a 2-day long, in-person RISE Facilitator Team training in July on the Corsicana Campus (dates TBD). • Facilitate and manage a minimum of one, no more than two, sessions per semester. • Collaborate with Co-Facilitator each week to support the success of each session. • Prepare for each session - become familiar with presentation, facilitation guide/key points and topics, materials needed, etc. • Completion of self-evaluation after each session. • Attend 45-minute, weekly, Monday morning meetings with RISE Facilitation Team to review material and go over opportunities, feedback, as well as check-in and questions. • Attend end of the year review with RISE Facilitation Team for final thoughts, improvements, and assessment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Have a deep passion for helping and supporting students. Possess strong communication skills. Excellent organization skills. Demonstrate ability to differentiate between presenting information and facilitating individual and group participation/discussion.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in any field. Preferred: Preference will be given to internal employees currently working in the Student Success division and those currently involved with Navarro College in a professional capacity. Experience working directly with and supporting students.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Total estimate of weekly time commitment: 4 hours per section. Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Preparedness to work outside of the 8-5 job time if needed. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.
SALARY: $12.50 per hour
