Provides instruction in the clinical and lab settings for students in the Nursing Assistant course. Prepares students for state certification exam.The focus of student instruction includesApplication of relevant theoretical frameworksDevelopment and refinement of psychomotor skillsIntegration of pathophysiology and disease processesNursing Assistant care of clients across the lifespan with alterations in health in hospital and community-based settings.Nursing Assistant Faculty are expected to create a caring learning environment that will promote active learning and foster critical thinking.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide Nursing Assistant Instruction. The Nursing Assistant Program Curriculum uses a collaborative teaching model. The Primary Instructor uses a variety of teaching methodologies to deliver theory content including lecture demonstrations classroom activities and Canvas activities and exams. Clinical Teaching Associates assist the Primary Instructor to provide instruction in the lab and clinical settings. Skills instruction takes place in a bed lab environment where students practice Oregon State Board of Nursing mandated skills. Students demonstrate skills proficiency in formal check-off sessions in student teams. Acute care and sub-acute care settings in the community allow students to practice direct patient care and check-off skills proficiency with direct instructor supervision.Faculty assignments include providing individual feedback to guide and evaluate student progress. Part-time teaching requires up to approximately 8 load units per term. Teaching occurs during the day evening and weekends. Lab and clinical teaching is in-person. Nursing Assistant faculty are expected to perform all essential duties and tasks specific to the nursing department as outlined in the Nursing Program Faculty Handbook.Serve as Role Model and Supervisor in Areas of Nursing Assistant Practice.Office Hours and Student Contact. Clinical Teaching Associates should be available by appointment for Office Hours. All Primary Instructors are expected to be available to their students outside of class when students are scheduled on campus. There is a minimum of at least one office hour per week for each course taught.Meet as a Condition of Employment. Individuals in the Nursing Department also must meet Oregon Health Authoritys other requirements for clinical placement.Minimum RequirementsClinical Teaching Associate candidates must meet qualifications set forth by the Oregon State Board of Nursing Division 61 Oregon Administrative Rules for Clinical Teaching Associates.Current unencumbered license to practice as a RN or LPN in Oregon.One year experience as a licensed nurseCandidates must also meet these qualifications set forth by the CollegeThe candidate must show evidence of expertise in clinical nursing practice with a minimum of one years clinical-based experience in direct patient care or as an instructor in a nursing education program or nursing continuing education program within the last ten years.Requires demonstrated excellence in teaching or promise of excellence in instruction.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respond to changing demands.Must meet College requirement for computer literacy.Equivalency StatementThe College recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment.
