What youll do on a typical day The part-time instructor, College and Career Readiness provides instruction and retention strategies to students in the basic skills program. This position reports directly to the Program Director, College and Career Readiness in the respective campus. Knowledge and willingness to work with special populations is beneficial to this position in addition to the following responsibilities:Coordinate and provide specialized instruction to meet the needs of a diverse population including those with intellectual and developmental disabilitiesTeach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one while promoting student successTeach adult students in a classroom or lab settingInstruct and demonstrate effective teaching methods in an engaging and relevant learning environment including, but not limited to, career exploration and development, contextualized instructional content, and/or transition to curriculum and continuing education pathwaysAssess and monitor students progress, maintain files and assist students in goal setting and attainment. Determine additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques, if needed. Utilize resources and technology to promote student learningInstruct students on socially acceptable behaviors and personal development skillsMaintain and submit accurate records in a timely mannerFollow DCCC and College and Career Readiness policies and proceduresParticipate in professional development as needed or requested to remain current in the fieldMaintain professionalism and continually build knowledge and skillPerform other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the college Your attributes Bachelors degree from an accredited institutionAbility to teach basic mathematics, reading and writing (prior experience a plus)Strong oral and written communication skillsDemonstrate knowledge of specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilitiesAbility to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively Patience, organizational, and time-management skillsKnowledgeable with MS OfficeAbility to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environmentFamiliarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community collegeEffectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:Translating College purpose, values, and vision into organizational actionCollaborating and facilitatingCreating and innovatingAnticipating and responding to changeProviding vision and leadershipAssessment of student learningEngagement and assessment of successful student retention modelsPreferred:Experience teaching students with disabilities in the K-12 environment Work environment ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information and exercise good judgment in the collection, evaluation, and analysis of data, and student assessment, and curriculum development.
