What Youll Do on a Typical Day This part-time faculty member's primary efforts focus on teaching and learning, academic excellence and student success. Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) / Advanced Law Enforcement Training (ALET) / Training. A person in this part-time position would be teaching courses for which the instructor is properly certified to teach on an as-need-basis. This position reports directly to the Division Chair of the Law and Legal Division.

Responsibilities • Promote College mission, values, and vision • Teach assigned basic law enforcement courses, advanced law enforcement courses, mandatory/in-service law enforcement courses, Probation in-service courses, and/or detention officer training courses at various locations to meet program needs, including, but not limited to; day, evening, weekend, and online as needed. • Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency. • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback. • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in the learning environment(s) to meet program needs. • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning. • Develop course syllabi if needed and provide appropriate written information to students concerning course evaluation and criteria. • Provide appropriate information to students concerning evaluation and grading criteria. • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate feedback. • Maintain accessibility to students, faculty and staff. • Assist in the evaluation of courses and programs. • Prepare and submit instructional records, reports and grades established by institutional policy. • Participate in professional development to enhance instructional and technical skills. • Attend appropriate internal and external meetings. • Participate in activities necessary to maintain program compliance with regulatory agencies. • Assist in student recruitment and retention. • Adhere to all College policies and processes. • Perform other assigned tasks that support the mission and initiatives of the College.

Required Qualifications • Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent or higher educational degree. • Possess and maintain required certification(s) necessary to teach your assigned topic(s) such as NC General Instructor and/or Specialized Instructor certifications. • A minimum of four (4) years of experience working as a criminal justice professional, e.g., practicing attorney, judge, magistrate judge, law enforcement officer, detention officer, adult probationary officer, juvenile court counselor, criminal justice faculty, or similar criminal justice related occupation.

Preferred Qualifications • Possess an Associate Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution. • Two (2) years of experience teaching Basic Law Enforcement (BLET), Advanced/In-service Law Enforcement (ALET), Detention Officer Certification (DOCC), Probation Officer training courses and/or other related training courses. • Experience using Microsoft Office, and Online Learning Systems, such as Moodle or Canvas.
